Teaser Tuesday: Shopping at the Salvo

A week since my last post? Really?

Well, yes. I’ve been writing–I’ve hit 30,000 words on Seas Run Dry!–and brainstorming, not to mention really wrapped up in a certain television show’s finale. Expect an epic blog post about that sometime over the next day or so.

But I didn’t forget about you, dear readers!

Today’s teaser, from Seas Run Dry (synopsis; previous teasers) is set in one of my favorite places in the world: a Salvation Army thrift store. It’s also got a bit of homoerotic subtext, between my merman Loril and his girlfriend’s best friend, Evan, who is trying on some clothes with him. Blame Torchwood.

Woooo tension at the end there :) I like this scene — I know people say it's cliche to have a character study their appearance in the mirror, but you make it work here, since he has good reason to (he's never seen a real mirror before). And the description of his looks is really striking, too. "his whole face was a ghostly bluish white. His hair hung in greasy curls against his forehead." <– loved those lines

Thanks! I debated over posting this bit, because of the mirror stuff, but I really like the tension. And they're trying on clothes so hopefully, the digression seems sensible!

Oooooh, love this. I read slash, and I hate that I have to read slash to get my slash fix. I wish YA books had that stuff. *sigh*

I hope to see this book on a shelf one day!

Aw, thanks Jaimie! I love slash, too. This is probably as slashy as this MS is going to get, but I had to throw some in there!

I've been following your blog, btw. I keep meaning to comment and let you know that I have my fingers crossed for your query process!

Man, you do the homo-erotic thing really well–that was seriously tense at the end! Awesome! I'm very curious about your MC, who seems so naive and slightly bewildered by everything, poor merman! :)

  • I could almost feel his tension hehe. Awesome snip!

  • nice snip. i could really feel the tension between the boys! :)

  • Bri says:

Ohh, nice tension there at the end! I really enjoyed the whole tease though, great snip! :)

  • Leasie says:

Nice work, you really got across the feeling and the description is beautiful. Definately have me craving more

  • Jaimie says:

Just saw this reply — thanks! My fingers are crossed too.
