Teaser Tuesday: The Story of the First Walker, Part 1
Fresh off the word processor (and oh, very unedited!), this week’s teaser is a bit of a stylistic shift. It comes from a story that my merman, Loril, tells his human girlfriend Irene about the first Walker, his namesake. I tried to make this a fresh version of the many mermaid legends that exist–creating a story told from the mermaid’s perspective. The second half will follow next week.

Nice. I love when books have myths in them, like this. I do a few of them in my own book. You really got the tone and language right; I was completely enthralled. Looking forward to next week!
Thanks, Jaimie! It's so hard to get that mythic tone down–they definitely have their own style.
What myths do you use in yours?? I can't WAIT to read your manuscript. If it's not already obvious that I'm a big fangirl from my comments on your blog!
I agree with Jamie, the myth is very intriguing and totally hooks me.
Great teaser!
Well done; as others have said, this rings true to the genre. It sounds like someone reciting an oral history.
I make/made up my own myths. Just the "Where did the gods come from and how did they become gods?" mythology. Greek mythology has myths about that, but they're too epic for my tastes. I wanted something more human; I wanted the big epic stories to be lies. It made sense to me that way.
